General Knowledge 50 objective questions 50
English Composition 20 objective questions 20
English Composition (typed on computer) Essay 10, Letter 5, Precis 5, Punjabi-to-English translation 10 30
  • 1/4 mark is deducted for each wrong objective answer.
  • You need 33% in each subject and 40% in aggregate.
  • The subjective English part is checked only if you score 33% or more in General Knowledge.

Stage 2 – Computer Proficiency Test (qualifying only): a spreadsheet test (10 marks, 10 minutes, minimum 4 marks) and an English typing test at 30 words per minute. The typing test is checked only for those who clear the spreadsheet part. Final merit is based on CBT marks alone. Practise with our typing speed test, and read how the 30 WPM speed is calculated.

Salary

The notice gives the pay for fresh appointees as ₹29,200 at Level 5 under Punjab’s new pay scales for recruits on or after 17 July 2020, plus allowances as per rules. Punjab’s new-recruit pay rules have their own deductions, so the in-hand amount will be lower than the gross. The salary calculator can give you a rough idea.

How to apply

  1. Visit sssc.gov.in and open the Punjab Clerk notice 37C/SSSC/PB/2026.
  2. Register with a working email and mobile number, since the e-admit card and updates come by email/SMS.
  3. Fill in the form, choosing the correct category. Only one application per category is allowed, and the latest one counts.
  4. Upload your photo and signature, then pay the fee online.
  5. Submit before 4 pm on 4 November 2026 and keep a printout.

Who should apply, and tips

This suits Punjab graduates with Matric Punjabi who type reasonably well in English. The written test decides your rank, so give most of your time to GK and English composition, especially Punjabi-to-English translation, which carries 10 marks. Government employees need a No Objection Certificate from their office. The exam can be held anywhere in North India, and a mock test link appears on the SSSC site 15 days before the exam.
