Salary hike formula
New salary = Current salary × (1 + Hike % ÷ 100).
Hike % = (New salary − Current salary) ÷ Current salary × 100.
Example: a 12% hike on ₹6,00,000 gives ₹6,72,000, which is ₹72,000 more a year or ₹6,000 more a month in CTC.
What is a good salary hike in India?
Annual appraisals in India typically range from about 7% to 10% for average performers and more for top performers. When switching jobs, 20-40% hikes are common, depending on your skills and industry. A hike below the inflation rate means your purchasing power has actually fallen.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my salary hike percentage?
Subtract your old salary from the new salary, divide by the old salary and multiply by 100. For example, (6.6 - 6) ÷ 6 × 100 = 10%.
Is the hike calculated on CTC or in-hand salary?
Companies usually quote hikes on CTC. Your in-hand increase is lower because PF and tax also rise. Use our in-hand salary calculator to see the exact take-home change.
What is real salary hike?
Real hike is your hike after inflation. With a 10% hike and 5% inflation, your real hike is about 4.8%.
