Notice period buyout

If you cannot serve the full notice period, many companies let you "buy out" the remaining days. The usual formula is (monthly basic ÷ 30) × shortfall days, though some use gross salary. Your new employer may reimburse this. Unused earned leave can sometimes be adjusted against the notice period.

Frequently asked questions

Is the resignation day counted in the notice period?

Usually yes. The notice period starts on the day the resignation is accepted or submitted, depending on company policy.

Can I leave without serving notice?

Only if your employer agrees or you pay the buyout. Leaving without either can delay your relieving letter and full and final settlement.
