AI Platform Engineer – Starburst (Remote, India)

About the role
Starburst gives enterprises secure access to data wherever it is stored, using open technologies like Trino and Apache Iceberg. Its AI team builds agents such as AIDA, and this is the team's first dedicated platform engineering hire, focused on tools that help other engineers ship faster.

What you will do
- Design an SDK for building AI agents, covering tools, context, evaluation and prompts
- Build a reliable bridge between Python AI code and the JVM-based Starburst platform
- Create developer tooling such as local environments, debugging tools, test harnesses and CI integration
- Set and maintain API contracts between the AI layer and the platform
- Build shared infrastructure like a model gateway, observability pipeline and experiment framework

Who can apply
- 5+ years of software engineering, including 2+ years on platform, infrastructure or developer tools
- Skilled in Python and a JVM language (Java or Kotlin)
- Experience designing APIs and SDKs used by other teams
- Strong distributed systems basics plus containers, CI/CD and cloud (AWS preferred)

Work from home details
Remote role in India. The posting says about 25% in-person travel is required for onboarding, team offsites, customer meetings and company events.
